Trail Description: Lake McMurtry has 4 mountain bike trails, 2 on the west and 2 on the east side. You must drive or ride 5 miles of gravel road from one side to the other to complete all 4 trails. Each of the Mountain Bike Trails are approximately 7 miles of mostly tight single-track, some open fields, and a few creek-crossings. Dirt is hard-pack with some soft ground; it rides well after rain. No large hills, but LOTS of small hills. Overall, a pretty fast course. *Drive to West Side* SW - Southwest Trail ["Blue Trail"]: The trailhead is immediately to the right (south) after the stop sign when you drive/ride into the west side of the park. A good trail to start out on, some technical sections, but mostly small rollercoaster-type sections. *Trail Note* After the first part of the trail, you must ride pavement to the left (south) to rejoin the trail. *Drive to West Side* NW - Northwest Trail ["Orange Trail"]: The trailhead is immediately to the left (north) after the stop sign when you drive/ride into the west side of the park. The most scenic of the four trails with several views of the lake. Portions of this trail really ROCKS! (Hint). NW Trail has the most variety with some two lane gravel section road, fast grass trails, winding trails through woodlands, some tricky up and downs near the creeks, and a rock pile or two your'e gonna like. *Trail Note* After the first part of the trail, you must ride the gravel road to the right (north) ~1/2mi to rejoin the trail. The second part of the trail starts with a cattle guard - use caution crossing it. *Drive to East Side* NE - Northeast Trail ["Yellow Trail"]: The trailhead is to the right (north) after the stop sign when you drive/ride into the east side of the park. The newest trail is fast between some really technical sections. The course is available to pre-ride anytime... just pay the fee and enjoy the ride |

*Note - if you know the area, you can start on the east side if preregistered (checkin at the SE "Red" trailhead pavillion.) Also, there are shorter, but less easy ways to get to Lake McMurtry - you can take any of the roads in the Area Map that are marked with a heavy red or black line to get to either side of the lake. |
